Manchester City to Win and Under 3.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Man City have wobbled a little lately, following their Champions League exit with an unconvincing FA Cup win over Chelsea, but they are ruthless in the Premier League and should edge Brighton in a low-scoring contest.

Brighton vs Manchester City Predictions

  • Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 13 away games in all competitions
  • Both teams have scored in each of Manchester City’s last four away contests
  • Both teams have scored in 12 of Brighton’s 15 home league fixtures
  • Kevin De Bruyne has scored three goals in Manchester City’s last five contests

City set sights on victory after testing period

It was not the most convincing performance but Manchester City squeezed past Chelsea 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday and they must now turn their attention back to the Premier League title race with a visit to Brighton.

In a cagey contest at Wembley Stadium, City came out on top thanks to an 84th-minute strike from Bernardo Silva.

But Pep Guardiola’s side were limited to only three shots on targets and their opponents had multiple opportunities to draw first blood with Nicolas Jackson’s wastefulness in front of goal costing them.

That slender win followed a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals last Wednesday, when City were dumped out of the competitions on penalties.

While this is usually the stage of the season when Guardiola’s men take things up a gear, they have wobbled a little recently and will be eager to put in a strong performance upon their league return.

Seagulls can keep things tight at the Amex

In their absence from league duties, both Arsenal and Liverpool chalked up wins to leapfrog City in the standings but they have a game in hand and are still in control.

That said, a visit to Brighton will not be straightforward and City are unlikely to breeze past the Seagulls.

Brighton have had a mixed bag of results in the league this season, posting 11 wins, 11 draws and ten defeats from their 32 assignments.

Their last home game ended in a 3-0 defeat to a ruthless Arsenal side but they have otherwise kept things close against the top clubs this season.

Since the start of February, they have sustained narrow 2-1 defeats to Liverpool and Tottenham in the top flight and they were also edged 2-1 by Manchester City and 3-2 by Chelsea last year.

De Bruyne could make his mark again

Losing all of those matches will do little to fill Brighton fans with confidence heading into this game but the Seagulls are seldom disgraced and should keep things tight.

They have lost only one of their last 13 home games in the Premier League and have failed to score only twice at home in the Premier League this season.

City should get over the line but it could be tight and a bet on City to win and under 3.5 goals is the way to go.

In terms of a correct score pick, back City to win 2-1, while Kevin De Bruyne, who has scored three goals in City’s last five matches, is appealing in the anytime goalscorer market.
