Tithe: What It Is and What It Is Not

For all Christians, God wants us to be as wise as the serpent. Yahuwah, the one who created us knows that the agents of the devil are most of the same people we call men of God hence he warned all Christians to be as wise as the serpent.

Let’s be wise and unlearn the lies.

The reality is that your wealth or poverty is not determined by whether you pay or don’t pay a tithe. If you believe that your tithe is the key to your prosperity, consider discontinuing it and perhaps study how the first 100 wealthiest individuals in the world give and follow their example.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, particularly in books like Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, the concept of tithing is outlined. The tithe was a practice where individuals were required to give a tenth (10%) of their agricultural produce, livestock, or income to support the Levites, who were a tribe of Israel set apart for religious duties and had no inheritance of land.

The tithe served multiple purposes:

  1. Support for the Levites: Since the Levites did not receive a portion of land like the other tribes of Israel, the tithe was intended to provide for their needs and support their service in the tabernacle or temple.
  2. Maintenance of the Tabernacle/Temple: The tithe also played a role in the maintenance of the religious infrastructure, including the tabernacle in the wilderness and later the temple in Jerusalem.
  3. Assistance to the Poor: In some instances, tithes were also used to support those in need, including widows, orphans, and foreigners (Deuteronomy 14:28-29).

It’s important to note that the New Testament does not explicitly command Christians to tithe in the same way it was prescribed in the Old Testament. Instead, the emphasis is on cheerful and voluntary giving, with the understanding that everything belongs to God. The New Testament encourages generosity and supporting the needs of others, but it doesn’t specify a fixed percentage as the tithe.

As a Christian, whose favour do you need most? God or man? Let your offering go to those who need it in our community. Be a wise Christian.

What Tithe Is Not

Tithe is Not a Ticket to Luxury

One prevalent misconception surrounding tithe is the idea that it exists to fund extravagant lifestyles for religious leaders. The Bible, however, emphasizes the selfless and sacrificial nature of giving. In 1 Timothy 6:7-10, the Apostle Paul warns against the love of money and highlights that godliness with contentment is great gain. The purpose of tithe is not to accumulate wealth for personal gain but to contribute to the well-being of the community.

Tithe is Not an Avenue for Empire Building

The construction of vast religious empires by some leaders has raised questions about the true intent behind tithe collection. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus advises against storing up treasures on earth but encourages the pursuit of treasures in heaven. This implies that the focus should be on spiritual growth and community welfare rather than the materialistic expansion of religious institutions for personal glory and as a hub to steal for the ignorant congregants.

Tithe is Not a Political Fund

Tithe should not be wielded as a tool to support political powers or influence elections. The Bible urges believers to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s (Matthew 22:21), emphasizing the separation of Christian religion and political realms. Tithe is meant to address spiritual and communal needs rather than serve political agendas. You may need to recosider your affiliation with churches that are in bed with Caesar.

For those who still want to pay tithe, It is essential to revisit the true essence of tithe as outlined in the Bible and dispel misconceptions that have emerged over time. The act of tithing should be guided by a genuine commitment to spiritual principles, community welfare, and the well-being of others. The misuse of tithe for personal gain or political influence contradicts the core teachings of selflessness, humility, and stewardship found in the scriptures. As believers, let us strive for a deeper understanding of tithe, embracing its intended purpose as a means of communal support and spiritual growth.

The tithe was a practice where individuals were required to give a tenth (10%) of their agricultural produce, livestock, or income to support the Levites, who were a tribe of Israel set apart for religious duties and had no inheritance of land.

The man you are giving your Tithe to,

  1. Has already used your tithes and offerings to build businesses that are bringing him and his family profits.
  2. You have made them rich. They have more than they need
  3. You are already helping them make thousands of dollars on the internet every minute
  4. So say they need to pay their church members. In the first place, the ekklesia is not business.
