The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Southern Command, Brigadier General Samuel Yeboah Asare has urged the military to remain professional in their conduct, particularly as the country approaches the 2024 elections.
Speaking at a parade to effectively mark the transfer of leadership of the 66 Artillery Regiment from Lt. Col Edward Sarpong Appiah to Lt. Col. Jala Lidin Ibrahim, as the new Commanding Officer of the Regiment in Ho, the GOC of the Southern Command, Brigadier General Yeboah Asare while appealing to the military personnel to extend their “support to the new commanding officer of the regiment, called for unity and loyalty amongst the uniformed men.
“As soldiers, we are bound by a shared commitment to duty, honour and professionalism. The strength of the armed forces lies in the unity and loyalty of its members to command at all times. I therefore urge each and all of you to extend your full support to the new commanding officer as you did to the outgoing commander.”
Brigadier General Samuel Yeboah Asare also urged the military to exhibit professionalism as they support other security agencies in the upcoming elections.
“This year is an election year, let me therefore use this opportunity to remind you of the task ahead of us. As we prepare to support the upcoming general elections, it is crucial to remember our duty to remain professional in the discharge of our duties.
“Our actions will reflect on the integrity of the Ghana Armed Forces and our nation as a whole. I admonish you to maintain the highest standards of conduct at all times, and stay focused on your mission to support the civil authorities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all citizens to exercise their democratic rights.”
