Catholic priest apologises for singing King Paluta’s Aseda song at Mass [VIDEO]

King Paluta’s secular song “Aseda” has been making waves in some church buildings during service. At least three Catholic priests have been seen in separate videos singing and dancing to it along with their congregations.

On another occasion, a singing group in a church was seen in a video on social media singing with the congregation dancing to it.

Rev. Father Peter Kusi Twumasi, the Acting Rector of St. Stephen Rectorate in Bodomase near Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, within the Konongo-Mampong Diocese of the Catholic Church of Ghana is one of the Catholic priests seen in a video singing and dancing to King Paluta’s ‘Aseda’ song in church.

However, a few days after the video went viral, Rev Father Peter Kusi Twumasi is apologising for exercising wrong judgment and singing the popular song in church during Mass.

In a letter dated August 13, 2024, addressed to Rev. Father Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, the Representative of the National Liturgical Commission, Rev Peter Kusi Twumasi states that there was a lapse in his judgment when he openly enjoyed the ‘Aseda’ song.

“I write to you with a heavy heart, filled with regret and humility. I am deeply sorry for my actions in relation to the viral video featuring me singing a secular song ‘Aseda’ by King Paluta within a liturgical space.

“I let my guard down and allowed a secular influence to enter our sacred space. I realize now that my mistake has caused offense and confusion, and for that. I am truly sorry”, he stated.

But Father Twumasi is not the only one, who has been moved by King Paluta’s Aseda song. Many other pastors including other catholic priests have also been moved whilst in the pulpit to sing the song

But in all that, it is Rev Father Twumasi who in his apology letter states that his intention was never to disrespect the traditions or the faith.

“I am committed to upholding the values and teachings of our Church, and I fell short of that standard.

“I am mortified that this incident has been amplified on social media, causing attention and embarrassment to our community. I take full responsibility for my mistake and assure you that it will not happen again,” he added.
