Book Lou Moon Luxury Beach Resort in Ghana
Lou Moon is a luxury “eco” (didn’t see anything eco-friendly though) resort on the shores of Axim, in the Western Region of Ghana. It’s probably too early to call it, but I’ve done 4 reviews this year and this is currently my favourite – It’s a beautiful place with well-kept lawns, trees, and views of the sea and the beautiful Agyan Bay.
Their website describes it as a “jewel of nature” and they absolutely didn’t lie; it’s as perfect as it gets. It’s such an extremely peaceful and quiet place and is easily a favourite for romantic getaways and honeymoons.
The resort is a 100-120 minute drive from the Takoradi airport, and a 10-15 drive from the main road, and they arrange pick-ups from the airport for ¢500 one way and ¢1000 in and out.
The vibe is centred around complete peace and relaxation, so there aren’t many activities outside that. There are a few activities like kayaking, paddle-boating and use of the sport facilities which are free, but the main attraction is the beach and I can’t say it enough, the sea here is just so beautiful. Clear blue water, white sand – it’s such a clean and pure vibe. Clearest and bluest I’ve seen in Ghana. Close to the water’s edge, the sand is a little more coarse than regular beach sand and there are flat rocks in the seabed which might be a little slippery, so remember to watch your step. There is no public pool – the only ones available are private ones in the island villas.
The resort is open to a limited number of day visitors (40) per day and you’ll need to book a day pass in advance. It costs ¢150, and ¢100 from that amount goes towards your bill at the end of the day, whether at the restaurant, a paid activity/service or for something from the giftshop, so essentially its ¢50. Kayaking, paddle-boating and use of the facilities for things like tennis and volleyball are all free with the pass, just like they are for residents.
Activity Price List
- Boat Ride – ¢100 (30 minutes)
- Beach Massages (available on weekends. can be arranged on request during weekdays) – ¢200 (1 hour)
📍Beach/Sea Views
• A bay is a recessed, coastal body of water that directly connects to a larger main body of water, such as an ocean, a lake, or another bay. A large bay is usually called a gulf, sea, sound, or bight. A cove is a type of smaller bay with a circular inlet and narrow entrance.
Accomodation here is a bit on the expensive side and comes in half board (breakfast and dinner) or full board (breakfast, dinner and lunch) packages.
Room Types at Lou Moon Luxury Resort
1. Island Chalets
The Island Chalets are set on the island, a short distance from the centre of the resort and have absolutely beautiful views of the sea. There are currently 2 chalets and each one comes with a “personal concierge” (ie butler) who is on call from 7:00am till 10:00pm.
The main difference between both chalets is the size:
The Bay Side Chalet has 2 rooms – 1 master bedroom with a queen-size bed, and a slightly smaller room with one double and one single bed and a shared bathroom. It sleeps up to 5 guests.
The Ocean Side Chalet has only one double room with a really big bed. It ideally sleeps 2 people, but there is a couch that if push comes to shove could double as a sleeping place for an extra person.
Villa 1 has 2 bedrooms and a loft and can sleep up to 6 people(standard number,4). It has an infinity lap pool, a veranda for sunbathing, a dining area and a private manicured garden. The bathroom has a bathtub with a an ocean view and a shower.
Villa 2 has 1 bedroom and can sleep up to 4 people(standard number, 2). It has a half moon infinity pool overlooking the sea, a wrap-around veranda and a dining area.
The bathroom comes with a bathtub with an ocean view and a shower.
Both villas come with a butler as well.
3. Bay View Rooms
There are 3 rooms each with private terraces and beautiful views of the bay under this category. They are all in the same block and are closer to the centre of the resort and the beach.
Room 6 and 9 are on the ground floor and Room 8 is on the top floor. The ideal number of guests in each room is 2, but rooms 6 and 9 can sleep up to 4(2 adults, 2 children).
There is only 1 suite. It’s on the first floor and has beautiful views of the Lou Moon bay area. There are 2 bedrooms and a private balcony which makes it a good choice for bigger groups. (Couples vacations, family trips etc).
*Room prices are higher during peak season (holidays etc)
Check in is at 3:00pm and Check-Out at 12:00pm. The process is pretty simple and like most places, you’ll need some form of identification.
I got an Island Ocean Side Chalet and the view from sunrise to sunset was nothing short of perfect (the place was well lit, but the bay was dark at night so I’m not counting that). I absolutely loved it! It had such beautiful views, not just from the balcony but even from the bed and there was just so much space. The cane bed was big enough for 3 in my opinion and was so comfortable – definitely enough space in the chalet for 3 or 4. Our Butler was super attentive and attended to us even after 10:00pm, which was really appreciated.
The room came with a
- Mini bar
- Air conditioning
- Outdoor and indoor shower
- Complimentary toiletries
- Safety deposit box and
- Mosquito nets
(There is WiFi available at an extra charge)
Minus the fact that the AC wasn’t working so we ended up having to use the fan (which meant we had to take the mosquito net off) and the screen door wasn’t properly fixed in, it was as close to a perfect experience as it gets. 100% worth the trip and the price.
